WA Seminars

The True North off the coast of Rottnest Island

The Australia Day trip on the True North was a blast - perfect weather and a great group made it a day to remember, and it’s quite likely we’ll be doing it again next year.

The usual boring flight across to WA passed quite quickly for once, I passed the time shooting pics out of the window on my little Lumix camera - I even got a few that I was happy with!

Central Australian dune fields

Nick Melidonis picked me up from the airport and kindly put me up for the night before dropping me of at the docks in Fremantle to board the True North. Glen, Christian, Tony and myslef then talked ourselves hoarse doing 2 talks each and answering numerous questions throughout the day - it was lots of fun and it’s really good to see so many folks so keen on bettering their photography.

I’m now staying with Christain Fletcher down at Dunsborough and getting ready for the weekend’s workshop at Bunker Bay. We went out on a recce today and as expected we have found some great spots to shoot at - and as a bonus it’s a full moon over the weekend!

Hi mate the bottom shot is of Wyadup Rocks, but it all looks kind of the same!! hehe, This is better than anything I got with the phase one!! ;-(

Oops! I was hoping no-one would notice that I didn’t know where I was - trust Fletcher to pick it up. I’ve corrected it now, don’t want to upset the locals.

Top spot though - there are lots of nooks and crannies to explore plus some really weird rock formations. Well worth a visit if anyone is in the area.

Hi Nick, Great talk on True North I really learned alot from what you had to say. Especially loved those moonlit shots, awesome.

Wish I was going to Bunker Bay, sadly I missed out on the announcement :( Any chance of getting on the mailing list for any future workshops.

Hi Nick, was great seeing your presentation on TN. Your pano work is real inspirational. Especially the night shots.

On that note it looks like the 6 pano stitch on the lumix was not as seemless as your other work :)

  10. admin says:

Yeah, the distortion from those little lenses is hard to smooth out - you are very observant, it’s only a tiny flaw! And I did it in a hurry, no doubt I could do a better job with Autopano Pro or PTGUI.

  11. Kheng says:

That is always my biggest worry with stitching that the horizon’s don’t match up. Which is why I was surprised in the TN workshop that you use a wide angle lens for your pano stitches.

If I may, I am adding you to my blog roll :)

Nick, thanks for a great Tuesday’s presentations - even bought a copy of your magazine on Sat to check it out. Was good chatting with you about timelapse and moonlight shooting, will definately try some of that out.

  13. Nice shots, you guys had a p65! I should have come just to fondle it :(
