Aperture 3 - Initial Impressions

A little white box just arrived in the mail from Apple - the hugely reworked Aperture 3. It’s installing now, and I’ll make some  comments over the next few days or so, as I get the hang of it. First impressions from the spec list in the press kit are good, there are tons of new features including - yay - local adjustments and proper geotagging.

Check out the Apple site here:

Here are a few of the images chosen by our participants in the Bunker Bay workshop. Whilst it was focussed on classroom seminars, we did get out three times to do some photography and I was very impressed with everyone’s results.

WA Seminars

The True North off the coast of Rottnest Island

The Australia Day trip on the True North was a blast - perfect weather and a great group made it a day to remember, and it’s quite likely we’ll be doing it again next year.

For Colour Geeks Only

I’m just off to Perth for a series of seminars and workshops with Christian Fletcher and Nick Melidonis. I’ll be on the True North for a photo-cruise to Rottnest Island followed by an intense workshop the following weekend.

Feb 6/7 sees me at the Light Fantastic conference hosted by the University of WA and then an afternoon of talks by me and Nick M on the 8th.

At some of the talks I’ll be demonstrating a tool I use for tricky colour work - Lobster.

It’s a superb little tool from Free Gamma and, not only that, but on their website there is a whole load of info about how Photoshop works under the hood, exposing certain weaknesses that Lobster sidesteps. Check it out but put your thinking cap on if you do!
