I have just finished looking through the video footage I shot whilst on the Orion's trip down to the Sub Antarctic Islands and put this little sequence together. I used a Canon 7D and 5D Mk2 with my various lenses but mostly the 16-35 and the 300f2.8.

Video is becoming a very important part of my travel photography but it's raising issues around now practical it is to do both at the same time. Your head needs to be in a different place to think about sequences and edits and it would be easy to pay less attention to the stills. I have difficulty pulling focus with long lenses so I need to work out a way of overcoming this aspect, probably with a magnifier of some sort.

Having said that, it does add a huge new dimension to travel photography and I intend to keep on shooting footage where I can. I'll be over in Perth in a few weeks with Christian Fletcher so I should get some opportunities to shoot new material and fine tune my approach.

For those who are interested this video was edited on a MacBook with iMovie, one of the most underrated apps out there. if you are a PC person like me  (actually I have both) it's almost worth buying a Mac just to have access to this brilliant little program!
